About Asia

Asia is the world's largest and most populous continent, located primarily in the eastern and northern hemispheres. It covers 8.6% of the Earth's total surface area (or 29.9% of its land area) and with approximately 4 billion people, it hosts 60% of the world's current human population. During the 20th century Asia's population nearly quadrupled.

Asia is traditionally defined as part of the landmass of Eurasia — with the western portion of the latter occupied by Europe — located to the east of the Suez Canal, east of the Ural Mountains and south of the Caucasus Mountains (or the Kuma-Manych Depression) and the Caspian and Black Seas. Asia, in turn, is part of the yet larger landmass of Afro-Eurasia, whereby Eurasia is joined to Africa at the Isthmus of Suez. It is bounded on the east by the Pacific Ocean, on the south by the Indian Ocean and on the north by the Arctic Ocean. Given its size and diversity, Asia — a toponym dating back to classical antiquity — is more a cultural concept incorporating a number of regions and peoples than a homogeneous physical entity. The wealth of Asia differs very widely among and within its regions, due to its vast size and huge range of different cultures, environments, historical ties and government systems.

Helping the local community and wildlife sanctuaries

Asia offers a bewildering choice of experiences for the adventurous traveller. Over the years we have scoured the backroads of this vast continent to bring you a comprehensive range of trips that cover the highlights and many of the lesser known gems. Tourism does benefit many local communities in Asia. Asian wildlife is also under threat from poaching and other population pressures and visits to national parks can provide valuable employment and hence income to surrounding villages and encourages the protection of wildlife. Although parks such as Nepal's Chitwan, Sepilok Orang-Utan Sanctuary in Borneo and Ranthambore in India are not short of visitors, you can also visit lesser-known ones like Khana and Kaziranga in India - vital habitats for the tiger and Asian rhino respectively. There are also a lot of trek, hike and general walking trails that will amaze you with their beauty.

Why book an adventure holiday in Asia?

The lively bazaars, ornate architecture and the sometimes puzzling customs of Asia make any visit a refreshing break from western life. Blessed with a rich tapestry of cultures developed over aeons of time, this is a region full of colour and contrast. Endowed with a backdrop that can be anything from snow-capped mountains to palm lined beaches, the region rarely fails to delight adventurous travellers, no matter where you visit.
