Southern Africa highlights from the Cape to 'Vic' Falls Search for the 'Big Five' in Namibia & Botswana Explore the sand dunes of Sossusvlei & Okavango waterways
Cape Peninsula & Naukluft Mountains Beginning in Cape Town, we explore the peninsula with a hike to Cape Point and stunning views over the 'Cape of Good Hope'. We also discover the African penguin colony at Boulders Beach and of course, there's the opportunity for a cable-car ride to the top of Table Mountain. We then head north via Clan William and the Gariep River into Namibia to explore Fish River Canyon on foot. From here we reach the Naukluft Mountains and the gigantic apricot coloured sand dunes of Sossusvlei - the highest in the world.
Damaraland & Etosha National Park After time in the Atlantic coast town of Swakopmund we continue north deep into Damaraland visiting Cape Cross seal colony en route. After searching out the Bushmen rock paintings at Twyfelfontein and Brandberg mountain we head to Namibia's pre-eminent park, Etosha. Here we explore the salt pans and grasslands, where we should see plentiful game and birdlife on our first safari. We end our time in Namibia relaxing at Popa Falls on the Okavango River.
Moremi & the 'Smoke that Thunders' Our time in Botswana is spent exploring the wilds of the Moremi Game Reserve in the Okavango Delta, a huge freshwater oasis in the Kalahari Desert. We'll make a boat safari and game drive here before continuing via the salt pans of Nata to Kasane and the opportunity for more game-viewing in Chobe National Park. Our journey ends at Livingstone where we discover the 'Smoke that Thunders', Victoria Falls and there's also time for a choice of exciting optional activities at Zambia's adventure capital.
If not done already there may be another opportunity this morning to enjoy an early ascent of Table Mountain by cable car, before we leave Cape Town behind and head for our camp lying in the shadow of the imposing Cederberg Mountains.
Note: Departures in September and October (Spring) may well coincide with the blossoming of wild flowers, though this cannot be guaranteed as it is quite unpredictable.
After a short game drive this morning we’ll head back to Maun to rejoin our truck. From here we head east once more, driving onto Nata, which lies on the edge of the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans.
